Marina Service Writer

Department: Service
Location: Waukegan, IL

Reports to: Manager, Service

The Service Writer’s responsibility is to perform the duties below on a regular basis and meet customer satisfaction standards as well as company service and sales requirements. This position requires the team member to work 5 days per week and 8 hours per day. Seasonal schedule changes may take place at management discretion.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Sell service and maintenance work to customers in person, by telephone, and electronically as best suits the customer
  2. Sell upgrades and improvements to customers
  3. Document and write customer work orders and enter them in the computer
  4. Secure customer approval prior to starting work including method of payment
  5. Estimate mechanical and electrical repair costs when requested
  6. Work with the parts department to ensure that parts are ordered after estimates are approved and monitor lead times to manage shop flow and efficiency
  7. Review, edit, and approve customer billings and warranty billings
  8. Work with mechanics and management to ensure timely completion of work
  9. Clarify and correct reasonable customer dissatisfaction
  10. Obtain warranty approval from manufacturer and help process warranty claims
  11. Recommend changes in procedure that will improve service efficiency
  12. Complete and process all paperwork on a timely basis and with accuracy
  13. Maintain department accurate company records
  14. Maintain work area in an organized, clean, and safe condition
  15. Assist in training personnel
  16. Promote safety procedures and implement safety requirements
  17. Promote inter-departmental relations
  18. Refer potential Sales leads and potential Storage leads to each department

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Act with the highest level of integrity and maintain a positive attitude
  • High school diploma required
  • Two years of applicable experience required
  • Working knowledge of engines and parts used in the maintenance and repair of engines
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job
  • Must be able to complete assigned work in an efficient and timely manner
  • Strong work ethic and personal commitment
  • Ability to work in a team environment to achieve team, department, and company goals
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Standing, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, reaching, grasping.
