Reports to: Mechanical Manager
The Mechanic/Marine Technician’s responsibility is to perform the duties below on a regular basis and meet customer satisfaction standards as well as company sales and safety requirements.
This position requires the team member to work 5 days per week and 8 hours per day during the busy season. This schedule may be altered to a 4-day workweek and 10 hours per day in the off season, with management approval. Marina operating hours range from 5:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and seasonal schedule changes may take place at management discretion.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform trouble shooting and repair of marine gasoline and diesel engines, from maintenance to complete overhaul
- Repair/rebuild gearsets, transmissions and sterndrives
- Repair propulsion components such as transmissions, sail drives, stern drives, etc.
- Diagnose and repair 110V gensets, 12V and battery bank systems
- Perform winterization and spring commissioning of engines and ships systems
- Install mechanical equipment such as; new engines, air conditioning systems, pumps, anchor windlass, and others as assigned
- Perform mechanical repairs on boat equipment including water systems, waste systems, steering systems, engine controls, pumps, etc.
- Demonstrate good judgment and problem-solving skills and abilities
- Perform other duties as assigned or apparent
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Act with the highest level of integrity and maintain a positive attitude
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid drivers license required
- 4 years of experience in the performance of mechanical repair and installation
- Apprentice offered outside of this qualification
- Ability to speak and read English and understand electrical wiring diagrams
- Ability to use test instruments
- Must provide personal mechanical tools and test equipment
- Apprentices may allow for tool crib use
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job (see below)
- Must be able to complete assigned work in an efficient and timely manner
- Strong work ethic and personal commitment
- Ability to work in a team environment to achieve team, department, and company goals
- Ability to be a self-starter and work independently
- Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs
- Ability to work comfortably around water
- Ability to work in tight spaces
- Ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet
- Stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, crawl, bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, grasp
